Surgical vs. Non-surgical Skin Tightening

by admin

Our skin can become loose due to multiple reasons, like age or massive weight loss. And whenever gravity finds a chance, it comes in to produces droopiness and wrinkles on our face and body. Our concern about droopiness is a natural one. We don’t want to look that old – not yet! Here, we will look at different solutions to tighten your skin and regain your youthful appearance.

Nonsurgical skin tightening

Don’t rush towards surgery! Surgical facelift is not the only solution to tighten loose skin. Have a look at the following three nonsurgical alternatives first.

  1. Laser skin rejuvenation: Lasers can effectively resurface the skin and stimulate the collagen to tighten it. There are CO2, fractional CO2, and erbium lasers with different characteristics but single aim – tighten and rejuvenate your skin.
  2. Radiofrequency, ultrasound, and infrared: There are a number of devices to tighten the skin such as TITAN, Refirme, and Thermage. Thermage uses radiofrequency (RF) energy and TITAN uses infrared light to stimulate collagen and tighten the skin.
  3. Dermal fillers: Dermal fillers like Restylane, Juvederm, and Radiesse can be used to soften the shadowing around your facial creases, making the jowls and cheek fold less prominent.

Surgical skin tightening

If your skin needs light to moderate tightening, nonsurgical skin tightening can do the job. Otherwise, you will need to tighten your skin with the help of cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery can produce dramatic difference in your appearance. After weight loss or a pregnancy, skin usually goes back to its original position. In many cases however, it does not come back to its original position and people are left with excess, loose skin.

Surgeons can remove excess hanging skin and fat under the skin. They can also reposition the underlying muscles to obtain the desired results. These “lifts” can be performed on many body parts like face, neck, arms, breast, tummy, hips, and thighs.

Never go for surgery if you can achieve your desired goals without surgery. Most surgeons will guide you about the suitable method but do not be shy to have a second opinion.
